At Hillside, we believe education is more than the mastery of subjects—it is the shaping of hearts, minds, and character for a lifetime of purpose. We are committed to helping each student discover their unique gifts, develop resilience, and grow into compassionate, capable young people who are ready to contribute meaningfully to the world. From our youngest learners in Pre-K to our soon-to-graduate eighth graders, every student is known, valued, and encouraged to reach their full potential.
Our approach to teaching blends rigorous academics with hands-on, project-based learning. Students don’t just study history—they become historians who consider primary sources in order to identify patterns or draw conclusions. They don’t simply memorize science concepts—they become scientists who explore, experiment, and discover. In this way, they build the critical thinking skills, creativity, and curiosity that will serve them well throughout life.
Hillside students learn beyond the walls of our classrooms – the historical society, city hall, public library, farmers market, parks and the Snoqualmie river are all in walking distance of our school.
Just as important as academic achievement is the development of character. We guide students in practicing empathy, integrity, and respect for others, drawing on timeless values and the example of servant leadership. While our school is open to families of all faiths or no faith, a Christian perspective informs the way we approach learning and relationships—helping us see the worth in every person and inspiring us to lead with kindness, humility, and a commitment to serving others.
