Please read this letter from the Fruit Bearers Ministries about Mark Dado.
Mark Dado never knew his father.
His father deserted the family when Mark was just 2 years old.
When Mark was 15, he went to board a bus and attempted to grab the handle of the moving bus. His hand slipped and he fell under the dual rear wheels of the bus. His left leg was run over and mangled. The leg had to be amputated above the knee. Mark missed a year of school during this difficult time. He eventually went back to school and caught up with his class. He was a very good student.
His mother left Mark and his two brothers with his grandmother and went to Manila where she got work and sent money home to support Mark and his brothers. Mark was the one in charge of the family. He made sure that his brothers stayed in school. The grandmother was not in good health.
We got to know Mark when he was a junior in high school. He was near the top of his class. Fruit Bearers took Mark on as a sponsored child. This was the first time anyone had shown an interest in him and he was so thankful! When Mark graduated from high school he wanted to go to college. Fruit Bearers found a sponsor to help fund college for Mark. We also bought a lap top computer for him and we communicate with him on a regular basis. At first Mark wanted to major in computer science. But then he became good friends with one of his teachers and it became his dream to be a teacher.
He is now in his final semester of college and will soon have his degree to be a teacher. Fruit Bearers has helped Mark get a prosthetic leg so that he can walk. However, it is a very basic, inexpensive leg and Mark needs a better one before he enters the world of work. It is available from a company in Manila is very expensive but will last Mark a lifetime. The problem: It costs nearly $8,000.
Mark will need to go to Manila for a month of training to use the leg. We are hoping to find help in buying this prosthetic leg for Mark!
Thank you for considering helping Mark achieve this goal.

This is where Hillside Academy can help!
Our classroom coin drive goes directly to help Mark get his new prosthetic leg.
Every year Hillside raises money to help people who live in poverty in The Philippines. Some past service ministries that we have funded have been:
- Helping a child with club feet get life changing surgery.
- Funding rain barrels and water filters for people with no access to clean water.
- Buying the supplies for a shade shelter at a community feeding project.
Mark wants to be a leader, a teacher. Help us to help him! Every coin goes directly towards the purchase of Mark’s new prosthetic leg. We will be excited to share updates with you.
