Dear Students and Parents,
My name is Kevin Mandoske (Mr. M) and I am going to be your Kindergarten and 1st Grade teacher this year!! This is my 6th year at Hillside Academy. Kindergarten is a time of new beginnings, of making friends and of learning lots of new things each and every day. In 1st grade we will build upon the skills learned in kindergarten and challenge ourselves even more. I hope your summer went well and you are excited about our coming school year at Hillside Academy. I am looking for another great year of fun and learning in our combined class this year.
Kindergarten is a wonderful transitional time for children as they move into a more academic classroom environment. We will manage to have fun along the way, as play is still an important part of their lives. Young children learn as they play and play in addition to academics can be their work. For those returning students, now 1st graders, they know my expectations and will be of invaluable help as we get our kindergarteners into the swing of a more academic day.
You are welcome to visit our classroom at any time. I am always looking for helpers who can come in on a regular schedule, whether weekly, biweekly, or when your schedule allows. This help may be to make copies, help with a classroom activity, or assist in a reading group or writing workshop. I am also looking for a core group of mentor readers to read one on one with our kinders in the morning if you are available. This program has been so successful in the past in making our kinders First Grade ready.
I believe that your child’s success depends on a good parent-teacher partnership. Working together in school and at home will give your child what is needed to realize her or his full potential. Throughout the year I will communicate with you through our class blog (http://mando2802.edublogs.org/ ). I do a short blog every school day about what we are doing in the classroom and what events may be coming up at Hillside. I also use Class Dojo, a classroom management program, that lets you see your child’s behavior and classroom activities as they happen. Please sign up for both these communication tools when you get the invitations. I am always available to chat with you at a time that is convenient for you. Please feel free to call me (845-742-1119), or email me (firstname.lastname@example.org). I’m looking forward to a wonderful year with you and your child!
