The month of December is such a busy time of the year. Our children are so excited about the coming of Christmas and all the joy it will bring.
With all the excitement in the air we still try and focus on some of the things we have to do and continue to study our letters. For the month of December, we studied and learned the letters N, J and H. All the children did very well with each of the letters by learning how to sound them out and how to recognize what they are. We further engrain each letter sound by having the children bring a toy from home that starts with the letter of the week.
At the very beginning of the month we carried over our theme of cooking. Using whipped cream, pumpkin puree and spices the children made the most delicious pumpkin dip. We shared this dip with another class and in turn they shared popcorn and mashed potatoes with us! The children enjoyed sharing their dip and made new friends by doing so!
In between learning our letters and our cooking we took the time to underscore our yearly theme of creativity.
We took on a great project by doing a Jacket and Mittens Drive. We talked a lot about how important it is to stay warm during the cold days and how we could help others by providing them with the things needed to do that such as Jackets and Mittens. We made a box to collect the donated items and decorated the box with pictures of Jackets and Mittens.
At the end of the month we will talk about who the donated Jackets and Mittens went to and how much it helped those people. It was a fantastic project and it really helped the children to learn how to help and support others.
In addition to our Jacket and Mittens Drive we all worked on a special project to remember the 2016 year by creating a wonderful ornament for each of the children’s parents. They made and decorated each of them and cannot wait to hang them on the tree!
To cap of the month of December and to capture the Christmas Spirit the children have been practicing very hard on a version of Jingle Bells which they will sing in front of all those who will attend our Christmas Program. We are so proud of all the children as this can often take a lot of courage to not only sing but to do so in front of a crowd! I am sure they will do great and bring all the joy in the world to their family.
There are so many activities and things to do during this time of year but we had loads of fun and still learned so many things. The children are looking forward to Christmas and I wish them and their families the very best during the Holidays.
