A Hillside Christmas

Every year our wonderful Hillside Arts Team comes together to decide what to do for our annual Christmas program.
  • Should we have short skits?
  • Should we just sing?
  • What is a theme that doesn’t leave out the true meaning of Christmas?
Last year we focused on the Fruit of The Spirit. We had songs, small skits, and verses from the Bible as a reminder of how we should reflect on our spiritual lives. We presented a Christmas tree, ornaments, and cookies to a family in need in our community as well.
There was a lot of thought and feeling as we planned this year’s evening of reflection and celebration. We decided that we needed a Giving Project to try to bless someone in our community at Christmas time.
This year we have decided to focus on traditional songs that tell the story of Jesus’s birth and the joy and celebration we have at Christmas in celebrating this.
First we had to choose songs that reflect this story and add some fun songs in between that remind us to remember friends and loved ones at Christmas.
After all the songs were chosen the students began practicing and learning not only with their voice parts, but also how to play their songs on instruments.
In Performing arts we try and think of creative ways to introduce the songs to the students, which actually takes a bit of research.

~Who wrote the song?

~What is the song about?

~Is there a verse from the Bible that can also help us to reflect upon the song?

The students came up with short introductions to give the audience a reason for the song, the true meaning!
Next, we focused on bringing the Hillside families together to celebrate Christmas through giving.
This year’s giving project focused on our neighbors in Woodinville at Special Delivery. (Please visit their website) We gathered up gift ideas for the women and children served by Special Delivery. These are women and children who have faced homelessness, but have now found a place where they can receive help and eventually a home of their own! Many of you have seen our small tree in the entryway of Hillside with gift tags of basic items that these families would love to have at Christmas.
I am blessed, honored, and my heart is filled with joy to be part of a wonderful community of teachers, families, and friends! I hope you all have a wonderful Christmas and are blessed with love!
Love,
Miss Nisha
